Provides nursing support with various functions such as; invasive procedures, medication administration, performing appointment and registration scheduling functions. Assists the RN with clinical clerical functions. Ensures smooth work and patient flow within the clinic. Essential Functions : Accurately and efficiently takes vital signs and basic historical patient data. Identifies abnormal patient findings. Communicates patient concerns or significant changes in patient’s health status to provider or RN. (10%) Assists provider in setting up for procedures including aseptic and sterile techniques; provides safe administration of medications and immunizations (oral, IM, subcutaneous, and/or intradermal); obtains EKGs, orders appropriate tests as directed by provider; and schedules specialty and follow-up appointments as directed by provider. (10%) Prepares patients for examinations, assists with examinations, cast or splint applications, minor procedures a variety of other medically related tasks within their scope of knowledge. (10%) Assists in the coordination of clerical information necessary to provide patient care. This may include, but is not limited to: • Referrals. • Assisting patients with appointments if necessary. • Faxing of pertinent medical information. • Maintains patient medical record and other information. (10%) Documents accurately and appropriately in patient medical record. (10%) Reports change in patient condition to appropriate health care provider in a timely manner. (10%) Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments/supplies. Prepares and maintains clinical and office supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization and restocking of exam and treatment rooms. (10%) Maintains a safe environment by practicing sound safety and infection control practices according to agency policies and procedures. Helps to identify safety and infection control issues. (10%) Engages in performance appraisal on a routine basis by accepting and providing constructive feedback and integrates feedback into practice. Participates in competency reviews as required by department. Assumes accountability for achieving goals set jointly with the manager for the next evaluation period. Participates in the peer review process. (5%) May perform phlebotomy and perform various laboratory procedures after competency verified. Maintains safe collection and processing of laboratory specimens.
